Where to find street art in Sarajevo (Bosnia)
Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has undergone a remarkable transformation of its public spaces through street art since the early 2020s. The FASADA festival, launched in 2021 by the Obojena Klapa association, has turned several residential neighbourhoods into open-air museums, inviting local and international artists to cover building facades with monumental murals on environmental and social themes.
The local scene is driven by figures such as Kerim Mušanović, Bosnia and Herzegovina's only active 3D anamorphic street artist, and Benjamin Čengić (ZIAN), one of the movement's founders. Murals are concentrated in the Marijin Dvor and Novo Sarajevo neighbourhoods and along Zmaja od Bosne avenue, offering urban walks where art engages with the still-visible scars of the 1990s conflict.
FASADA is today one of the most active street art festivals in the Western Balkans, with over thirty murals created across four editions, air-purifying paints and educational workshops that involve residents in transforming their environment.
