Hanimalé Moz is a French street artist who works mainly in urban mosaic, creating colorful “Moz” monsters that take over walls. The name “Hanimalé” comes from the first names of his children, and “Moz” refers to mosaic and to his monster species. He’s originally from Paris, and artists like Invader, André Saraiva, Jérôme Mesnager, Miss Tic and Mr Chat were early visual influences. Encouraged by street artist LineStreet, he went deeper into mosaic-making and improvisation, often without pre-drawing. Most of his creations are raw, simple and without outlines, guided more by feeling than precision. His sources of inspiration include animals, bright colors, manga, video games and cinema. He has placed over 120 Moz in Clermont-Ferrand, and also in Paris, Issoire, Port-Leucate, and Toulouse. In total he estimates he has installed about 250 mosaics. His future projects include developing a bestiary of his Moz, collaborating with other mosaic artists, exhibiting in museums or on larger facades, and possibly expanding internationally. His work is driven more by enjoyment, spontaneity and the desire to fill public spaces with joyful monsters than by institutional recognition.
