In 1990, while studying biology in Saint-Denis, he created what would become his signature figure: the Gouzou, a small orange character with no face, hands or feet, whose mood shifts with the news of the day — sometimes melancholic, sometimes punk, joyful or rebellious. A mural by Jace on a long wall in Saint-Leu, Réunion (61 Rue Haute). The yellow Gouzous move through a cracked pink mountain landscape, from which red hearts emerge. The cracked walls reveal pink through the white, while the small characters try to catch falling hearts or climb toward them. One Gouzou suspended from a crane attempts to place a heart.
