Yseult Digan, born in 1975 in Châteauroux, is a Franco-British street artist known under the pseudonym YZ. Raised in a family of artists — a sculptor father and a ceramist mother — she grew up in a highly creative environment that shaped her early path.
After studying audiovisual production and directing several documentaries, she gained recognition in the early 2000s by occupying urban space with monumental portraits.
Her project Open Your Eyes (2003), a series of portraits pasted in Paris and later in many cities worldwide, marked a turning point and brought her international acclaim.
Her work, centered on the human figure — often female — blends poetry, memory, and social engagement, giving visibility to individuals and communities overlooked by history.
YZ primarily creates works on paper that she pastes onto walls, transforming the city into a narrative and ephemeral medium.
A major figure in the French urban art scene, she has exhibited in leading institutions including the Centre Pompidou and carried out numerous international projects.
In 2017, she was chosen to design Marianne l’engagée, a new version of the iconic Marianne featured on French postage stamps, confirming her influence beyond street art.
After living in places including West Africa and the United Kingdom, she continues her practice today through urban interventions, exhibitions, and committed artistic projects.
