Jean-Yves Gauthé, who signs his works under the name ArtJean13, is a visual artist based in Brittany, trained at the École des Beaux-Arts of Quimper.
He uses a visual vocabulary rich in references — from pop culture to street-art and modern/contemporary art icons like Keith Haring, Pablo Picasso, and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
His works are often high in colour, very graphic, sometimes luminous, playing with depth and motion: animals stylised, playful forms, streets turning into stages.
Beyond his personal artistic practice, he engages in street-art workshops and contemporary creation sessions for young people in the region.
He also collaborates on mural or installation projects in public spaces, in partnership with local authorities.
His practice shows a dialogue between the popular and the sculptural, the playful and the serious: for example, he imagines ephemeral installations for cultural institutions’ anniversaries.
In an exhibition entitled “Art éclatant” in Quimperlé, his style was described as “Shebam, pow, blop, wizz!”, highlighting its energetic and immersive aesthetic.
As a cultural educator and intervenor, he is recognised as a figure in local urban and contemporary art, supporting collective and educational projects.
Although he remains fairly discreet about his personal biography (birth date, full training, etc.), his work shines in southern Brittany and arouses curiosity and admiration for its blend of spontaneity and visual culture.
Through ArtJean13, Jean-Yves Gauthé offers an art that is lived, shared, installed in the city and interacts with audiences.
