Nigel Leirens is a Belgian street artist born on June 25, 1993, in Ghent. He discovered his passion for graffiti in the summer of 2008 and has since become a prominent figure in Belgium's urban art scene. He currently resides in Aalst, a city he regards as his "adopted hometown."
Leirens' artistic style is characterized by vibrant and detailed portraits, often inspired by nature and cultural diversity. His most renowned work, The Girl with the Windmills, depicts an African woman holding a bird, with windmills symbolizing solidarity and resilience. This mural, created in Lokeren in 2021, won first prize in an international competition organized by the Street Art Cities platform, which catalogs over 37,000 artworks across 900 cities worldwide.
Beyond his murals, Leirens has engaged in community projects, such as decorating lockers in Ghent's Baudelopark, providing secure storage for homeless individuals. This initiative, in collaboration with the city of Ghent and the organization Wallin', aimed to blend art with social infrastructure and raise awareness about social exclusion.
