Tom Brikx is a French street artist born in 1974, renowned as the world's first LEGO® street portraitist. Emerging from the graffiti scene of the 1980s, he is self-taught and has developed a distinctive style that merges Op Art techniques with figurative portraiture, utilizing a palette of 60 colors.
Brikx's artistic journey began in his youth, influenced by the vibrant energy of New York City and the hip-hop culture. After studying at an art school and working in social services, he returned to art, channeling his childhood passion for LEGO bricks into his creations. Collaborating with an engineer friend, he developed a modeling software to design his pixelated portraits. Over the past 17 years, he has installed over 1,000 LEGO portraits in public spaces worldwide, depicting iconic figures such as Goldorak, E.T., Princess Leia, Spock, Buzz Lightyear, and Tintin on the Moon.
Brikx's installations are site-specific, often correlating the subject of the portrait with the location. For instance, he has created portraits of Rosalía, Gaudí, Picasso, Miró, Freddie Mercury, and Keith Haring in Barcelona, each placed in meaningful locations related to the figures. His work has been exhibited in various venues, including the Espace Art et Liberté in Charenton-le-Pont, and he has participated in festivals like Phénomèn'Art.
