Georges Zannol, known by his artistic pseudonym Zag, is a French urban artist born on July 4, 1971, in Lille. A self-taught painter, he began his artistic journey in his youth, driven by a desire to express himself freely. After spending time in Canada during the 1990s, he settled in Morlaix, Brittany, in 2004, where he has since become a prominent figure in the local art scene.
Zag is renowned for his large-scale anamorphic artworks, particularly his trompe-l'œil creations on staircases, which transform urban spaces into immersive visual experiences. His signature piece, La Morlaisienne, painted on the steps of the Manufacture des Tabacs in Morlaix, gained international recognition and was listed among the world's most beautiful staircases in 2014.
Throughout his career, Zag has participated in numerous exhibitions and festivals worldwide, including the Malta Street Art Festival (2015), the "J'ai le droit d'avoir des droits" exhibition at the Musée de l'Homme in Paris (2019), and a performance at the Berlin Wall during the United Nations' World Peace Day (2020).
In 2019, he co-founded the MX Arts Tour (formerly Morlaix Art Tour), an open-air festival dedicated to graffiti and street art, providing a platform for artists to showcase their work across Morlaix and its surrounding areas.
Zag's contributions to street art have been recognized with multiple awards, including two honors at the Golden Street Art Awards in 2024 for his works "Cœur du Léon" in Lesneven and "Quimper Endro" in collaboration with artist Akhine.
