Where to find street art in Hanoi (Vietnam)
Hanoi, Vietnam's thousand-year-old capital, is a city where tradition and modernity coexist in a unique balance. The Old Quarter, with its 36 trade streets, tube houses and hidden temples, forms the historical heart of a city founded over a millennium ago. Hoan Kiem Lake and its island temple, encircled by colonial boulevards, provide a symbolic center to the urban landscape.
Since the 2010s, Hanoi has established itself as a dynamic street art scene in Southeast Asia. Phùng Hưng Street, running along the Old Quarter's railway viaduct, houses seventeen murals inaugurated in February 2018 under a program supported by the Korea Foundation, UN-Habitat and the Hoàn Kiếm district People's Committee. These works, created by Vietnamese and Korean artists, evoke memories of the old city: street vendors, festivals, vintage trams.
The city also hosts other public art projects, notably the Phúc Tân neighborhood transformed in 2020 by sixteen local and international artists under the direction of Nguyên Thê Son. Hanoi continues to weave contemporary art into the urban fabric of its historic districts.
