Where to find street art in Houston (United States)
Houston's street art scene took shape in the early 2000s, supported by a progressive municipal approach allowing legal mural expression with fewer restrictions than most American cities. A community Mural Map launched in 2020 now documents nearly 750 works across the metropolitan area.
East End — known as EaDo (East Downtown) — is the epicenter, with warehouse walls covered in constantly evolving portraits, lettering, and large-scale murals. The Heights, the city's oldest neighborhood, Midtown, and Montrose also hold high concentrations of murals, while Fifth Ward features community-driven works celebrating its African American heritage.
Gonzo247, Anat Ronen, and Donkeeboy are among the most recognized local artists, alongside international figures like Okuda and Case Maclaim. The annual Mural Festival, launched in 2019, invites global muralists each year to create live works across the city. Over 850 documented murals and a culture of mutual respect between artists keep the scene among the most active in the southern United States.
