Map of street art in Coral Gables (United States)
This Florida city, a wealthy residential enclave of Miami-Dade County known for its 1920s Mediterranean planning, carries an Invader mosaic installed on Aragon Avenue on 30 November 2012. It is worth 10 points in the FlashInvaders game, the minimum, and it is still in place.
That survival is remarkable against the context. Around Miami, the artist lost thirty of his thirty-five Miami Beach pieces, and most of those installed elsewhere in South Florida. That this one has held thirteen years probably comes from its modest format and its location, on a residential avenue rather than a commercial frontage.
South Florida owes its urban art reputation to Wynwood, a Miami warehouse district handed to painters from the 2000s onwards, which claims the highest concentration of murals in the world. Coral Gables, regulated and residential, is its exact opposite.
