Finding wall painting in this Los Angeles County city takes some looking: the shopping core around Rodeo Drive has almost none, the reverse of the situation in neighbouring districts. Strict local rules on signage and facades account for much of it, and the few visible pieces come from private commissions rather than artists' own initiative.
A handful of motifs that have become obligatory stops for visitors, such as the pairs of angel wings repeated across the metropolis, have their version here. Wilshire Boulevard, which crosses the city and links Santa Monica to downtown Los Angeles, remains the axis where painted surfaces are easiest to come across.
Invader came through twice, between January 2000 and December 2003, leaving five mosaics worth 80 points in the FlashInvaders game. All are gone, as is every piece in Santa Monica and West Hollywood, where a tile cemented to a private facade does not stay long.
