Where to find street art in Kyiv (Ukraine)
Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, is home to one of the most dynamic street art scenes in Eastern Europe, built on a mural tradition dating back to the Soviet era — mosaics, bas-reliefs, monumental frescoes — and renewed since the 2014 Maidan Revolution by a new generation of politically engaged artists. The Podil neighborhood in particular has established itself as the geographic heart of this contemporary creation.
Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022, Kyiv's walls have become a space of resistance and memory. Artists such as Noyna, Gidevan, Waone and numerous Ukrainian collectives have painted city buildings to honor fallen soldiers, celebrate national symbols, and document the tragedies of the conflict. These murals have become powerful identity markers in the public space.
The Podil, Syrets, and Pechersk neighborhoods concentrate many of the most documented war murals. These works belong to a global tradition of engaged art while carrying a deeply local dimension, rooted in contemporary Ukrainian reality.
