Erriadh, also known as Hara Sghira, is a village on the island of Djerba in southern Tunisia that became in 2014 one of the world's most famous open-air museums thanks to the Djerbahood project. Launched by Mehdi Ben Cheikh, founder of the Itinerrance gallery in Paris, this festival brought together in June 2014 more than 150 artists from 30 countries to paint around 250 murals on the ochre and white walls of the village. Names like ROA, eL Seed, Swoon, Pixel Pancho and C215 transformed Erriadh into a must-see destination on the global street art circuit.
The impact of the project goes far beyond the artistic sphere: the village, once little-visited, has become a major tourist hub attracting visitors from across the globe. Restaurants, galleries and businesses have opened, and the walls continue to be maintained or enriched with new works, perpetuating the spirit of Djerbahood beyond the founding 2014 event.
Erriadh now appears on the map of great street art destinations alongside Berlin, São Paulo and Melbourne. The island's creative scene blends Mediterranean, Berber and Arab influences in often monumental compositions, making the lanes of Erriadh a unique artistic trail in the heart of the Mediterranean.
