Zurich's street art history stretches back to the late 1970s, when Harald Naegeli - dubbed the "Sprayer von Zürich" - began covering the city's concrete facades with wiry stick figures, sparking a long cat-and-mouse chase with authorities. A new generation of local artists, including brothers Pase and Dr.Drax (active since 1996), steadily transformed several districts into open-air canvases through the 1990s and 2000s.

Kreis 4 and its main artery, Langstrasse, host a dense concentration of works in an area known for multicultural life. Zürich-West (Kreis 5), around Hohlstrasse and the Hardbrücke bridge, is home to some of the largest murals in the city, including the "Flower Power" fresco spanning two buildings and REDL's "Melody" on Limmatstrasse - one of the tallest murals in Switzerland. The Escher-Wyss-Platz and Neugasse area extends the trail of large-format pieces.

REDL (Patrick Wehrli) is one of the most prominent figures of the current scene, with multiple monumental works across Zurich. Samora Bazarrabusa and the Pase brothers are among other established local contributors. The city regularly commissions public artworks, and guided tours on foot or e-bike offer structured routes through the main districts.
