This town in the Swiss Jura, former seat of the prince-bishops of Basel, carries an anamorphic facade signed Peeta, an Italian muralist whose work belongs as much to sculpture as to painting.

His method consists of painting on a flat wall volumes that appear to burst from it: smooth, metallic, twisted forms whose illusion holds only from certain angles. The artist comes from graffiti lettering, and his volumes are in fact letters pushed to abstraction, a method he shares with the French artist Astro.

Switzerland has several urban art centres, from Le Locle and its exomusée to the Geneva quaysides, but the practice remains regulated: few legal walls, strict rules, and commissions that almost always run through identified cultural programmes. That framework explains the technical quality of the pieces as much as their scarcity.
