Where to find street art in Gothenburg (Sweden)
Gothenburg, Sweden's second-largest city, has become one of Scandinavia's leading street art destinations thanks to Artscape, an organization that brought large-scale festivals to the city in 2016, 2019 and 2021. The city now boasts over 100 murals spread across neighborhoods such as Majorna, Biskopsgården and Hammarkullen, as well as on residential building facades throughout the suburbs.
The artistic movement developed around a desire to democratize public art and transform ordinary urban spaces into open-air galleries. International artists such as D*Face, Smug One and Kalouf have worked alongside local creators, leaving their mark on the city. The West Sweden Street Art Trail, managed by Artscape, now allows visitors to follow a guided route through more than 250 public artworks across the region.
Gothenburg is also known for its many independent galleries, particularly in the Vasastaden district, where openings and temporary exhibitions take place regularly. The local art scene blends Scandinavian tradition with international influences, making the city a particularly fertile space for urban artists.
