Map of street art in Zaragoza (Spain)

Urban art in Zaragoza took shape around Festival Asalto, launched in 2005 and regarded as the oldest street art festival in Spain and one of the oldest in Europe. Held every September, it began in the historic centre (Casco Antiguo) and the adjoining El Gancho district, where the collective Boa Mistura painted the event's very first mural. Over two decades the festival has left more than 250 interventions across public space.

Each edition takes over a different neighbourhood, spreading painted walls well beyond the old core. After El Gancho and San Pablo, the festival moved to the Delicias park area (2016), Valdefierro (2017), Barrio Oliver (2018) and then San José (2020). The works also crossed the Ebro river into Arrabal and Santa Isabel, part of an effort to regenerate working-class districts.

The line-up brings together Spanish and international artists such as Boa Mistura, Aryz, Okuda, Gonzalo Borondo, ROA, Dulk, Mantra and Helen Bur. Documented pieces include "Water/Life" by Helen Bur and a tribute to Iberian wildlife by Dulk. Beyond the murals, the September gathering offers workshops, talks and guided visits; its twentieth edition took place in 2025.
