A small seaside town on the Mar Menor, in the Murcia region, Los Alcázares has become a hub for urban art in Spain. The story began in 2013 with the El Pueblo Pintado initiative, led by the local collective La Compañía de Mario. Within a decade the project turned the town's façades into an open-air museum bringing together more than eighty local, national and international artists.

The route now counts over one hundred and fifty murals scattered through the streets, which the tourist office presents through free guided tours and year-round bicycle circuits. The walls explore themes tied to the area: the conservation of the Mar Menor, Murcian traditions and the town's aeronautical heritage. Large-format paintings and smaller pieces answer one another from one block to the next.

The momentum is sustained by the International Urban Art Festival, whose fourth edition in May 2026 gathered around fifty artists from across the world to create fifty new works, including eight on a very large scale. The urban art museum is thus continually enriched and reworked, making it a shifting ensemble rather than a fixed collection.
