Map of street art in Ciutadella de Menorca (Spain)
The former capital of Menorca, at the western tip of the island, received Invader on 31 August 2011: five mosaics installed in a single day, worth 140 points in the FlashInvaders game. Only one has gone since, which places this campaign among the best preserved in the Balearics.
The tiles follow the old fabric of the historic centre, carrer de la Marina and carrer Hospital de Santa Magdalena, before reaching carrer Corona Austral and the camí de sa Farola, the road running down to the lighthouse at the harbour mouth. One piece marks the road linking the town to Maó at the other end of the island.
The built fabric explains the survival: the lime-washed stone walls of the protected historic centre are rarely refaced and never demolished. That is the exact opposite of more recent resort facades, where refurbishment takes the tiles away after a few seasons.
