Where to find street art in Bilbao (Spain)

Bilbao's street art scene emerged against the backdrop of the political tensions of the 1980s and 1990s, when walls throughout the city carried graffiti and slogans tied to the Basque conflict. This context gradually gave way to a structured urban art movement that now plays an active role in regenerating industrial and working-class neighborhoods.

Bilbao La Vieja, along with the San Francisco and Zabala districts, forms the densest mural zone, with entire façades transformed by local and international artists. The Casco Viejo hosts murals coexisting with its medieval architecture, while Iralabarri — around Plaza Kirikiño — and the university district of Ribera de Deusto offer additional concentrations of works.

Artist Aryz left one of the city's most iconic pieces in 2014 on Urazurrutia Street, depicting human evolution. The BLV-Art festival has contributed to commissioning murals across multiple neighborhoods. Among the notable large-scale works is "Miradas sobre Bilbao," a 3,596 m² mural depicting the eyes of eight local residents, which holds a Guinness World Record.
