South Korea's science city was invaded in late September 2009: Invader cemented 22 mosaics here between 27 September and 2 October, along Dunsan-daero, Gungdong-ro and Uam-ro. Only four have gone missing since, and the series carries 450 points in the FlashInvaders game, making it the best-preserved East Asian campaign in our records.

Korean wall painting follows a different logic here, that of the daldongnae, the hillside neighbourhoods built by refugees and long left to themselves. Daedong, the highest village in Daejeon, founded in 1946 by families displaced during the Korean War, was repainted in 2009 by some thirty local artists and schoolchildren as part of the Rainbow Project.

The operation belonged to a national programme launched in 2007 that uses murals as a tool for reviving poor neighbourhoods. The result reads as a walking route: steep lanes, painted sheet-metal facades, colour-washed staircases and a view over the city from Daedong Sky Park at the top of the village.
