The Slovak capital carries a portrait by Fin DAC titled Rozjimanie, painted on Kamenné námestie, a central square lined with socialist architecture.

The Irish artist, based in London, calls his work Urban Aesthetics and builds it around a constant motif: a female portrait, most often East Asian, whose eyes are crossed by a mask of colour applied like a controlled splash. His walls are in Berlin, Tokyo, Amsterdam, Paris and Los Angeles.

Central Europe saw its capitals adopt the monumental mural through the 2010s, often on the blind gable ends of housing blocks built under the socialist regime. Those surfaces, numerous and vast, gave international muralists a ground that Western European cities, with older and more fragmented fabric, do not offer.
