Where to find street art in Lima (Peru)
Lima's urban art scene is rooted in the "chicha" graphic tradition of the 1980s, a visual movement born from the encounter between indigenous Andean and colonial cultures. A political turning point came in 2015 when the city mayor ordered around sixty murals painted over, sparking the grassroots movement #BorraronUnoPintaremosMil and the creation of the Muraliza el Barrio festival.
Barranco, a historic bohemian neighborhood on the Pacific coast, is the primary mural hub, with works covering façades along Bajada de Baños and its surrounding streets. Callao Monumental, an initiative founded around 2016 in the port district of Callao, transformed a five-block area into an art hub with workshops and galleries. Miraflores also hosts significant murals along Avenida San Martín and Colón.
Jade Rivera, Elliot Tupac, and Daniel Cortez (Decertor) are among the most recognized artists, producing works centered on Andean traditions and Inca spirituality. The Muraliza el Barrio festival, held each September since 2015, and the Barranco Street Art Festival in October bring together local and international artists annually.
