Where to find street art in Auckland (New Zealand)
Auckland is New Zealand's largest city, set on an isthmus between two harbours and dotted with volcanic cones. Its cultural heartland, Karangahape Road (K Road), has been home since the 2000s to one of the Pacific's densest street art scenes, with over fifty murals spread across the main strip and surrounding laneways.
The Grey Lynn, Newton and surrounding CBD neighbourhoods host local and international artists invited by the K Road Business Association through the All Fresco festival, which helped transform building facades into open-air galleries. Māori artists hold a central place here, weaving tā moko, whakairo motifs and hyper-realistic portraiture into a dialogue between tradition and contemporary urban art.
Today, Auckland offers several mapped street art circuits including the Uptown Art Loop connecting K Road to Upper Queen Street. The city continues to attract internationally recognised artists, making its streets a canvas for monumental works rooted in Māori culture and New Zealand identity.
