Where to find street art in Monterrey (Mexico)
Monterrey's street art scene developed in the 2000s, following the spread of American graffiti movements into northern Mexico in preceding decades. The city has established itself as one of the leading urban art destinations in the north of the country, alongside Mexico City and Guadalajara.
The Barrio Antiguo, the first officially designated "magical neighborhood" in the state of Nuevo León, is the epicenter of the scene, with its colonial architecture covered in murals. Galería Arroyo Seco is another concentrated street art destination, while the San Pedro Garza García district also hosts large-scale works.
Leo Marz, an abstract artist and community leader, along with the collectives Sayonara, Meiz, and Tungo, have helped shape the visual identity of the local scene. The Festival del Barrio Antiguo — ranked the third most important festival in Mexico — and the Callejón Cultural, a Sunday art market on Mina Street, animate the cultural life of the city. The Street Art Cities platform documents 72 catalogued works.
