Where to find street art in Osaka (Japan)
Osaka, Japan's second-largest metropolis, is known for its vibrant popular culture, street food and neighbourhood energy. Its Juso district, in Yodogawa Ward, has been home since 2021 to one of the country's most dynamic street art projects: the Yodokabe project, founded by artist BAKIBAKI to transform the neighbourhood's walls into an open-air street museum.
The Yodokabe project brings together local and international artists across some thirty sites around Juso Station, in anticipation of Expo 2025. Names such as Lauren YS, Nychos, Alex Face and Dragon76 have contributed to this community-driven project, making the neighbourhood a must-see destination for urban art enthusiasts in Japan.
Beyond Juso, Osaka has a long-standing graffiti scene and a rich pop culture, visible through its vinyl figure shops, arcades and festivals. The city represents fertile ground for the crossover between Japanese tradition and global street art aesthetics.
