Kingston is the capital and largest city of Jamaica, spread along a natural bay on the island's south coast. The seat of government and the country's economic center, it gathers more than one million people in a contrasted metropolitan area, from the residential hillside neighborhoods to the bustling alleys of the historic downtown.

The city is the birthplace of a world-renowned music scene — from ska to reggae and dancehall — and this cultural identity is written directly on its walls. Downtown Kingston has concentrated artistic ferment since the 2010s around Kingston Creative, an association that has commissioned more than 115 mural frescoes in the Peters Lane and Fleet Street area, within the Kulture Key cultural district.

Local artists like Sheldon Blake repaint the facades of the city center in tribute to music, food, and the island's landscapes. Kingston is establishing itself as a capital of Caribbean muralism, heir to a tradition rooted in the political paintings of the independence era.
