Map of street art in Roma (Italy)

Rome's street art scene emerged in the early 1990s around Forte Prenestino, a historic squat that hosted the "Happening International Underground" — the city's first graffiti festival. Over subsequent decades, more than 300 works spread across its streets, blending unsanctioned pieces with institutional projects. The Big City Life initiative in 2015 brought 21 artists from eleven countries to Tor Marancia to paint 22 murals in 43 days, establishing urban art as a tool for social regeneration.

Ostiense is the primary district, with over thirty large-scale sanctioned murals on former industrial walls, including "Hunting Pollution" by Iena Cruz — a seven-story ecomural considered the largest of its kind in Europe. Pigneto, nicknamed the "birthplace of stencil," holds landmark works by Sten & Lex and tributes to filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini. Garbatella, San Lorenzo and Tor Marancia round out the main urban art zones.

Key artists associated with the scene include Blu, Borondo, Lucamaleonte, Hitnes and Ozmo, alongside international contributors such as C215, Vhils and Gaia. The Muracci Nostri festival in Primavalle drew more than 50 artists in 2015. Guided tours now offer structured routes through the works scattered across Rome.
