Map of street art in Ravenna (Italy)

The capital of Byzantine mosaic, whose fifth and sixth century basilicas are UNESCO-listed, was an obvious target for an artist who works in tile. Invader ran a campaign here from 3 October 2014 to 21 September 2015, cementing 39 pieces worth 1,450 points in the FlashInvaders game, nine of which have since gone. That same year, 2014, saw the launch of the Subsidenze festival, run by the Indastria association and curator Marco Miccoli.

The Darsena, the old commercial docks, and the Gulli area hold the large-format work: whole gable ends have been painted in a district long kept at arm's length from the historic core, among schools, sports grounds and markets. Invader's tiles stay mostly downtown, on via Cavour, via di Roma and via Maroncelli.

Each Subsidenze edition brings in international names while opening walls to artists from the region: Millo and his black-and-white figures set against architecture, Pixel Pancho and his rusted robots with The Last Kiss in 2015, Jim Avignon and his City of Memories the same year, and SeaCreative. Ravenna now claims more than eighty works spread across its streets.
