Where to find street art in Bologna (Italy)
Bologna's connection to street art was established in 1984, when the "Frontier Art: New York Graffiti" exhibition at the Civic Gallery of Modern Art brought works by Keith Haring, Basquiat, and Kenny Scharf to the city. This encounter with the New York scene, combined with a strong local tradition of political activism, laid the groundwork for one of Italy's richest urban art scenes.
Via del Pratello is the flagship corridor, stretching over 600 meters of murals by local and international artists. The San Donato neighborhood features monumental 3D murals along railway walls, while La Bolognina concentrates works along Via Passarotti and Via Fioravanti. The Ponte di Stalingrado and Via Zamboni, in the university quarter, complete the city's main street art itinerary.
Among the artists most closely associated with the scene are Alice Pasquini, Ericailcane, Peeta, and Guerrilla SPAM. The ART CITY festival and the Cheap initiative — dedicated to poster art — sustain institutional engagement with the medium. In the nearby village of Dozza, the Biennial of the Painted Wall, established in 1960, transforms the entire town into an open-air gallery every two years.
