Map of street art in Aielli (Italy)

Aielli is a village of about a thousand people perched at 1,030 metres in the province of L'Aquila, Abruzzo, looking out over the Fucino plain. Since 2017 the Borgo Universo festival has invited international artists to paint the village facades along an unexpected thread: astronomy and the cosmos. Aielli now holds some forty murals, sculptures and installations, making it one of central Italy's most visited open-air museum villages.

The trail splits between Aielli Alto, the medieval hilltop centre you can walk in an hour, and the Aielli Stazione district two kilometres downhill. Among the best known pieces are Okuda San Miguel's 'Illuminary Palace' (2019) and Millo's 'Your Sky' (2020). The village is also home to the Torre delle Stelle, an observatory set in a medieval tower, which gives the festival its celestial theme.
