Mannheim is a city in Baden-Württemberg, in south-western Germany, set at the confluence of the Rhine and the Neckar. The former capital of the Palatinate Electorate, famous for its grid plan of numbered squares (the Quadrate, designated by a letter and a number), it is also an industrial and university metropolis.
Its street art scene has grown around the Stadt.Wand.Kunst festival, launched in 2013 by Alte Feuerwache, GBG Mannheim, Montana-Cans and the city, which each year invites international artists to turn the grey façades of the Quadrate into a public gallery.
From ROA to Bezt, by way of 1010, DAIM, Hera and Vhils, Mannheim now hosts some fifty monumental murals that make the city one of the major hubs of German muralism.
