This Baden-Württemberg town faces Strasbourg, separated from it only by the Rhine and a pedestrian bridge. The recorded work here occupies the railway bridge, on Straßburger Straße: a SpongeBob painted under the deck.

Crossing structures form a characteristic painting ground in border towns. Piers, decks and abutments offer large continuous surfaces, often out of immediate sight and rarely refaced, and their legal status, split between infrastructure operators and councils, leaves the practice a zone of tolerance that facades do not have.

The border position counts too: Strasbourg, on the other bank, has documented close to nineteen hundred works across its conurbation since 2018 through a collaborative map, and its scene naturally spills over the river. A painter crossing the footbridge changes country but not territory.
