Where to find street art in Hannover (Germany)
Hanover is the capital of Lower Saxony, a city rebuilt after World War II and today known for its major international trade fairs (CeBIT, Hannover Messe) and expansive parks. Its city centre blends contemporary architecture with rare historic remnants, offering ample wall surfaces for urban art.
Hanover's street art scene has been shaped by two complementary annual festivals: Hola Utopia!, a hip-hop and urban art festival founded in 2020 by Jascha Müller that transforms the Linden and Nordstadt neighbourhoods into open-air galleries each summer, and the Urban Nature festival which runs alongside it. These events have allowed international artists to leave a lasting mark on the city's façades.
The Nordstadt district, east of the centre, concentrates the largest number of permanent murals, particularly along Engelbosteler Damm and Celler Straße. Brazilian, Spanish, Portuguese and German artists have responded to the invitation of the real estate company Gundlach since 2017, turning this neighbourhood into an open-air museum accessible to all.
