Map of street art in Kutaisi (Georgia)

Street art took hold in Kutaisi in the mid-2010s: in 2016 French artist Vinie painted a blue-haired girl here during an international contemporary art festival. The NIKO Movement festival brought Georgian and foreign muralists in 2019, and Tbilisi Mural Fest launched its local programme in 2020, in the middle of the pandemic.

Much of the work sits in the centre. Beyond the Mon Plaisir arch, the tiny Patara Kucha lane gathers Vinie's girl, a tribute to the Georgian language by Musya and Tamoonz, and an "I love you" wall. More murals line Tsisperi Kantselebi, Lado Asatiani and Shota Rustaveli streets, while a gable on Varlamishvili Street carries Sasha Korban's much-shared grandmother.

In 2020 the KIU Mural Fest filled the Kutaisi International University campus with walls by Artez, Case Maclaim, Innerfields and Matthias Mross. Later Tbilisi Mural Fest editions added whole painted towers by Vesod, Tina Chertova and Thiago Mazza, with around fifteen walls created by that programme alone.
