Urban art took root here from 2008, when a Montpellier photographer launched the K-Live festival. Before that, the port had little more than scattered graffiti. Built on the idea of giving artists free rein, the event created the MaCO (Musée à Ciel Ouvert, or open-air museum): more than sixty murals have been painted, of which around forty still survive today.

The works are spread across several districts. On Rue Paul Valéry, the Italian Andrea Ravo Mattoni painted an adaptation of a canvas by Joseph-Noël Sylvestre, kept in the nearby museum. The Quartier Haut, the upper quarter, gathers many pieces: a portrait by C215 (2012), a figure by Seth, and work by the illustrator Dr Ponce near the Saint-Louis church. On the slopes of Mont Saint-Clair stand the metal origami of Mademoiselle Maurice.

The festival returns each June under artistic director Crystel Labasor, inviting new names to extend the trail: Manolo Mesa (2021), Madame (2022), Jace and Kikiland (2023) are among recent additions. Jan Kaláb, Codex Urbanus and Isaac Cordal have also left their mark on the walls. The tourist office runs guided tours of the route from April to October, along a walk of about two kilometres.
