This Loire-Atlantique village handed its walls to a railway and rural iconography: two steam locomotives, one yellow, the other blue beside a brick market hall, along with a caravan drawn by yellow horses and a composition devoted to the village mill.

Those subjects are not accidental. The railway line, the hall and the mill are the landmarks of a rural territory that watched industrialisation pass without keeping much of it, and mural painting plays a role of memory there as much as decoration. That is a function urban art rarely takes on in cities, where it serves regeneration instead.

The scale of the works follows the available fabric: house gable ends, shed walls and municipal buildings. Communes of fewer than two thousand people have no larger surface to offer, and it is that constraint that gives these murals their domestic scale.
