Between 2010 and 2012, eleven murals were painted in Saint-Sébastien-sur-Loire, on the south bank of the Loire within the Nantes metropolitan area. Commissioned by the council of mayor Joël Guerriau (1995-2017), at the request of the Les Amis de Saint-Sébastien association, the programme recalls local figures and episodes: General Cambronne, the Treaty of Jaunaie, the 1944 bombings and the washerwomen of the Becque river.
The works are spread across several sites. Boulevard des Pas Enchantés, the Anjou railway station and the grounds of the Tullaye manor carry large compositions. The Galtière basin bears a fresco evoking the market-gardening trade of the early twentieth century, while other walls depict the wine-growing village of Portereau, the Douet bandstand and the Grève racecourse.
These works are by Diana Taubin Stvolinsky, an Argentine-Spanish muralist who had already completed close to 200 frescoes in Latin America and 80 in Spain before this project, her first in Europe. A guided walking circuit of the murals is offered, notably during the European Heritage Days. The artist returned around 2021 to restore several of her frescoes.
