Saint-Nicolas-la-Chapelle faces Mont Blanc from the foot of Mont Charvin, spreading between 751 and 2,217 m. The parish first depended on the priory of Megève and broke away in the 14th century; its Baroque church, rebuilt between 1774 and 1776, is a listed historic monument. The hamlet of Chaucisse, which became a parish in 1827, and a ski area shared with Flumet complete this village of about 500 people.

Most murals are up the hill at the Marcinelle en Montagne holiday village, a social centre founded by the Belgian politician Lucien Harmegnies. In 2024 Amsted painted an abstract composition facing the reception, Loks Can a poetic window with a fox and a rose, and the duo Abys2fly and Osru an ibex with a coat of plants on a retaining wall. Gaëtan Olias decorated the Combes water tank facing Mont Blanc in 2025, and in 2026 Alan Ezur painted a fox, a deer and a bird in the village centre.

These works come from the Val d'Arly Street Art Festival, launched in March 2024 by the valley's tourist office with the Papajosette gallery from Lausanne. Each edition adds permanent murals to a trail that can be walked in summer, and a fourth edition is announced for 1 to 4 March 2027.
