Rillieux-la-Pape, a town in the north of the Lyon Metropolis, began a major overhaul of its urban landscape in 2019 through an urban renewal programme run with social housing landlords. As part of it, the town launched a call for projects entrusted to the Spacejunk Lyon association, which gave rise to Street Art Rillieux: an artist residency, permanent murals on building gables and, from October 2022, an annual festival.

From December 2021 to November 2023, the Mont-Blanc residency, set in an apartment block scheduled for demolition, hosted artists who each transformed a flat before the building disappeared with the renewal works. Around it, murals kept appearing: "La Semeuse" by the Quebec collective Projet Tyxna pays tribute to the cabbage growing that shaped the town's market-gardening history, Veks Van Hillik painted a kingfisher and a heron on the Enedis wall, and in 2024 Jeroo celebrated the twinning with Ditzingen on the COSEC gymnasium.

Each October edition of the festival combines monumental murals with participatory walls painted alongside residents, schools and community centres, plus a graffiti performance and guided walks. Brusk, Heta One and Monsieur S, M.Dangelo, Mac Lloyd and Quetzilla have all left their mark, forming a trail of around thirty walls between avenue de l'Europe, avenue des Nations and the town centre. The fourth edition in 2025 added six murals, and a fifth is announced for October 2026.
