Map of street art in Montauban (France)
The home town of Ingres has made its painter the thread running through its street art. At the corner of rue du Vieux Poids and rue des Rondelles, a black-and-white graffiti piece replays La Baigneuse Valpinçon, and at the foot of the Musée Ingres Bourdelle on rue du Tescou, a mosaic titled La Source de l'invasion quotes the master's best-known canvas. That nod is by Invader, who passed through between 23 and 27 August 2008.
His campaign runs to eleven mosaics, spread between quai Montmurat along the Tarn, rue Marie Lafon and the Sapiac district, worth 230 points in the FlashInvaders game. Two pieces have since gone. The pink-brick old town, with its arcades and narrow lanes, gives this small-tile format plenty of surfaces at eye level.
Other signatures followed: Corsican artist Julien de Casabianca with his paste-ups of figures lifted from museum paintings, stencil artist Miss Tic, and above all MOG, born Marika Gysbers and based in Pau, who painted two monumental murals including one on rue Fourchue. She works with colour vibration, combining aerosol and variable LED lighting, and draws her subjects from female figures such as Olympe de Gouges.
