A former coal town in the Aveyron, the city grew through the 19th century on mining and metallurgy before declining after its pits closed in the 1960s and 1970s. In May 2019 the intercommunal authority Decazeville Communauté launched MurMurs, an urban art festival run as a long-term project. Sponsored by collage artist Jo Di Bona, it pairs street art with land art across a landscape marked by the coalfield's memory.
In the centre, Place Decazes carries a fresco by Ardif, and a tower in the Parc district, near the gendarmerie, holds Astro's monumental piece (34 metres, the tallest in the department). The gable of the Casernes, the former Laminoir, shows Monkey Bird Crew's Le Pêcheur; other works line the health-centre car park and the Trépalou block.
The 2019 sessions gathered Astro, Kinmx, Kouka Ntadi, Hopare, Alber and Doudou Style, later joined by 100Taur, Jokolor, land-art sculptor André Stengele and local artist Gaël Ricci. On the disused Découverte opencast site, Saype painted an ephemeral fresco of three hectares on the grass in 2019. Now annual (a seventh edition in 2026), the trail gathers more than sixty works across seven towns, with guided tours and an interactive map.
