Map of street art in Brest (France)

Rebuilt after the 1944 bombings, Brest offers urban art a supply of bare facades and blind gable walls that the city has gradually handed over to painters. The right-bank mural trail, started in the mid-2000s along rue Anatole France, is its backbone: around ten monumental walls painted with the Lyon muralists of Cité Création, each devoted to a facet of local identity, from the naval arsenal to botany, oceanography and music.

Most of these painted walls stand in the Recouvrance and Quatre-Moulins districts, while the commercial port, the Saint-Martin area and Moulin Blanc host freer interventions. Les Capucins, a former arsenal workshop turned public venue, brought urban practices into a space that stays busy all year.

The local scene grew around figures such as Liliwenn, Wen2 and Pakone. In 2011, Liliwenn and the Sugar Rush association brought twenty-six artists from several countries to paint a number of sites across the city, a project that durably established graffiti and mural painting in Brest.
