Invader passed through this Corsican port in September 2005: 33 mosaics set between the 21st and the 27th, a single week's work, worth 520 points in the FlashInvaders game. Three pieces are missing today, which makes the Bastia campaign one of the best preserved anywhere. The tiles mark out place Saint-Nicolas, rue Chanoine Letteron inside the citadel, rue de la Marine and route de Ville.
Painted walls, by contrast, cluster in the southern districts. At square Nelson Mandela in Montesoro, French artist Seb Toussaint ran a participatory project in which residents pick the word painted on their own building, worked into stylised Corsican landscape motifs. The town council has separately commissioned murals to brighten facades in the centre.
The island scene turns on a few recurring names: the Graffink collective, made up of Karmatheora and Soes, and Piombu, who works with a local gallery and paints across Corsica. The Creazione festival gave these artists their first official walls, in a vein that crosses contemporary popular culture with the Latin muralist tradition.
