Where to find street art in Aarhus (Denmark)
Aarhus, Denmark's second-largest city, has established itself as a new center of Scandinavian street art through the 17 Walls project, launched in 2024 by the organization hART unlimited. This initiative brought together 17 international artists to paint 17 monumental murals in the historic city center, each illustrating one of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. All works are accessible on foot from the heart of the old town.
Beyond this flagship project, Aarhus has been developing a diverse urban art scene for several years. The Latin Quarter, with its colorful alleys, and Godsbanen — a former freight yard converted into a cultural hub — host murals by numerous local and international artists. The city thus offers an artistic route that blends medieval architecture with contemporary expression.
Aarhus is also known for its cultural institutions, particularly the ARoS museum, whose rainbow panorama walkway by artist Olafur Eliasson has become a symbol of the city. This tradition of supporting public arts creates a favorable environment for the emergence of new forms of artistic expression in urban space.
