Where to find street art in Nicosia (Cyprus)

Nicosia, capital of Cyprus, is the world's only divided capital, split since 1974 by a UN buffer zone running through the heart of the old city. Its medieval alleyways, Venetian ramparts and cosmopolitan markets make this walled city a unique urban laboratory, where Greek Cypriot, Turkish Cypriot and migrant communities coexist.

Nicosia's street art scene has grown since the 2010s in working-class neighbourhoods of the old city, including Trikoupi Street — a cosmopolitan axis linking the outer city to the historic centre. Local artists, including Twenty Three, use its walls to explore identity, tradition and modernity in a politically charged context.

The Municipality of Nicosia has supported urban renewal through art for several years, notably through ETAP (the city development agency), transforming the walls of car parks and buildings into socially engaged works that document the daily lives of the neighbourhood's inhabitants.
