Where to find street art in Medellín (Colombia)

Medellín's street art scene is inseparable from the history of the Comuna 13, one of the neighborhoods most affected by the violence of the 1980s and 2000s. In the early 2010s, following social urbanism policies under the Fajardo administration, young residents began trading weapons for spray cans, turning the district into one of the world's most recognized symbols of urban transformation through art.

The Comuna 13 (San Javier), reached via Metro Line B, is the epicenter: a 384-meter escalator system installed in 2011 is flanked by murals recounting the neighborhood's history. El Poblado holds the highest concentration of street art outside the commune, with works across café and hotel façades. Laureles — particularly along Calle 10 — offers a more local and less tourist-heavy circuit.

The Casa Kolacho collective, responsible for the majority of murals in the Comuna 13, uses hip-hop, dance, and art as tools for peace and education. The Medellín Street Art Festival and Meeting of Styles Colombia bring national and international artists to the city each year. Over 600 documented works are concentrated in the main districts, many honoring the memory of violence victims.
