Where to find street art in Valparaíso (Chile)
Valparaíso is recognized as one of the five global street art capitals and represents a unique case in Latin America: since the return to democracy in 1990, the municipality legalized street art across the entire city, making this UNESCO World Heritage Site (2003) an open space for free artistic expression.
The cerros Concepción, Alegre, and Bellavista hold the most visited works, including the Museo a Cielo Abierto on Cerro Bellavista, which brings together around twenty murals on building façades. The city's rugged topography — 43 hills crossed by funicular elevators — creates vertical galleries unlike anything found elsewhere, where murals and architecture interweave across the hillside.
Inti Castro, a leading figure of the Chilean scene since the 1990s, and the duo Un Kolor Distinto are among the artists most closely associated with the city. The Brigada Ramona Parra, founded in 1968, established a tradition of militant muralism whose legacy remains visible today. The Emerge Valparaíso project continues to invite international muralists, and over 200 works are documented across the hills.
