Map of street art in Phnom Penh (Cambodia)

Phnom Penh, Cambodia's capital situated at the confluence of the Mekong and Tonlé Sap rivers, is a city in full cultural renaissance. Marked by the scars of the Khmer Rouge genocide in the 1970s, it has steadily rebuilt its artistic scene since the 1990s. Today, neighborhoods such as BKK1, the Riverside and the Mean Chey area host galleries, studios and creative spaces that attract local and international artists alike.

Street art has taken on particular significance here, thanks to figures like FONKi, a Cambodian-Canadian artist who pioneered contemporary Khmer graffiti lettering inspired by the temples of Angkor, and founded FT Gallery at Factory Phnom Penh - a former textile factory converted into a 3.4-hectare creative hub on National Road No. 2. The Murals for Cambodia Festival, launched in 2022, brought together artists from Thailand, Japan, the UK and France for monumental mural productions.

The city also hosts the S'Art Urban Art Festival, co-organized with Phare Ponleu Selpak in Battambang, which helps position the entire Cambodian territory as a canvas for contemporary public art.
